Through a joint effort between CLP and the Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant Program, we were able to secure a $400,000, 0% interest loan for the NSBEC. Without this aid, the NSBEC would never have been a reality. The funding assisted in the development of the center; more importantly, it was an anchor to secure the additional funds needed to complete the project. This particular project has created a revolving loan fund that is administered by CLP. This means that when the NSBEC has paid back all or part of the loan, it will go into a loan fund for future economic development projects in the communities we serve. For more information on obtaining funds from the revolving loan fund, please contact Steve Wattnem at (218) 834-2226. The NSBEC is ideal for Technology Companies, Light Manufacturing, and Research & Development departments. The NSBEC offers companies affordable space, technical assistance, support services and a central location. Through a partnership between NSBEC and the University of Minnesota Duluth Center for Economic Development, companies can enjoy the benefit of assistance with Market Research, Business Planning, Loan Packaging, New Product Development and Management Assistance. The building is also equipped with such technology as T1 lines and video conferencing for the companies to utilize. Through a joint effort between CLP and Great River Energy's (GRE) Economic Development Loan Program, we were able to secure a $200,000 loan for Wolf Ridge. Gaining no public funding, this loan assisted with the construction of a dormitory for the students. Through our affiliations with GRE, we were also able to offer a $10,000 gift for a prior capital expansion project and are pledging $30,000 over a three year period to help fund the new Energy Lab. Because of this funding, Wolf Ridge can continue to expand and update it's learning facilities and teach the communities we serve the importance of environmental education. Wolf Ridge offers immersion programs which involve direct observation and participation in outdoor experiences and focus on ecology and science, human culture and history, personal growth, group building and outdoor recreation.
