Wait ‘til 8
Cooperative Light & Power has joined 5 other regional Electric Cooperatives in a program called Wait ‘til 8. The demand for electricity is dramatically increasing during the summer, causing higher electric costs as power demands must be met by high-priced generation. Members can help save money and minimize the effect of peak power costs by conserving energy during periods of peak electric demand. To help save money, we ask that CLP members voluntarily reduce their energy consumption during peak advisories by waiting until after 8 p.m. before using major appliances. Advisories can be heard on various radio stations during the summer months of June, July and August. When you hear a Wait ‘til 8 advisory on the radio, you can help by setting your air conditioner to a higher temperature and postpone using major appliances such as ovens, washers and dryers until after 8 p.m.

Change a Light, Change the World
Each year, CLP partners with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) ENERGY STARÒ program in launching the annual Change a Light, Change the World campaign. The campaign, which runs October through November, challenges Americans to switch to lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR – to save energy, money and to protect the environment. Changing the world really can be as simple as changing a light, by replacing your home’s five most frequently used light fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR. If every home in America made this change, we’d prevent air pollution equivalent to the emissions from more than 8 million cars. During October and November EPA and DOE are partnering with manufacturers, retailers, state governments and utilities throughout the United States to make finding and buying energy-efficient light bulbs and fixtures easier. In Two Harbors, members can receive a $2 rebate on Energy Star bulbs at the Electric Shop, True Value.
